In Zhytomyr region, Russia strikes at the site of accident response

on December 22, during the air alert declared in Korosten district, the Russian army struck at the site of the accident relief work at one of the critical infrastructure facilities in Zhytomyr region. This was stated by the head of the Korosten Regional Military Administration, Oleh Ryaboy, in a commentary to Suspilne, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Ryaboy said that the occupying Russian troops launched “chessmen” at the site of the accident. No one was killed or injured.
“Emergency services were working at the scene of the accident – civilians, employees of the State Emergency Service, representatives of the administration, and the local community. They worked to ensure normal functioning and movement of people. At that moment, the enemy deliberately re-launched the “chess pieces” at this place. Fortunately, no one was killed and no one was wounded. I urge people not to ignore air raid warnings, because the enemy does not care who they hit – children, schools, civilian infrastructure – they have no limits,” said Oleg Ryaboy.
As a reminder, a driver and an assistant were injured when a freight train derailed. Both were taken to hospital. According to the State Emergency Service, a total of four UZ employees were injured.
A passenger train 45/46 Kharkiv-Uzhhorod stopped on an adjacent track and its locomotive derailed. One woman among the passengers cut herself on the glass and was treated on the spot.
Railroad officials warn of delays for several trains, which will be rerouted through Shepetivka, Kozyatyn and Fastiv instead of Korosten. Delays are expected to be 3 hours or more:
- 45/46 Kharkiv – Uzhhorod;
- 1/123 Kharkiv – Ivano-Frankivsk, Vorokhta;
- 44/50 Ivano-Frankivsk – Cherkasy;
- 92 Lviv – Kyiv;
- 30 Uzhhorod – Kyiv;
- 8/150 Chernivtsi – Kyiv;
- 52 Przemyśl – Kyiv;
- 68/20 Warsaw, Kholm – Kyiv;
- 108 Solotvyno – Kyiv.
On December 22, train No. 98 Kovel-Kyiv will be routed through Zhytomyr, which will make the delay less than 3 hours.
At the Shepetivka station, a transfer to a suburban shuttle to Korosten will be organized, as well as in the opposite direction.
The train No. 6606 Malyn – Kyiv will also temporarily stop running this day . An alternative flight is #6610 Malyn – Borshchahivka, which will depart at 07:07.
“For more information about changes in suburban train traffic, please follow the Ukrzaliznytsia: Suburban Trains channel,” the UZ press service advises.
Specialists have begun restoration work.
According to the agency, the shelling “caused an accident on the railroad tracks.” Employees of the State Emergency Service conducted an operation to rescue people who were on the trains at the time of the attack. In particular, the SES reported:
“The rescuers evacuated the victims from the damaged locomotives and handed them over to paramedics.”
In addition to providing medical care, demining specialists worked at the scene.
“Sappers of the State Emergency Service examined the area for the presence of explosives,” the service said in a report.
Currently, all the fire centers that arose as a result of the attack have been completely eliminated.
As for the causes: investigative actions are underway.
Law enforcement and special services will have more details. Preliminary information: the freight train was hit by a detonation, probably by a Shahed-type UAV.
