NABU caught Tymoshenko offering a bribe, says MP

Anti-corruption authorities have reported exposing the leader of one of the parliamentary factions in Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada for offering illegal benefits to MPs from other political forces. This was reported by the press service of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

People’s Deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko reported that the SAP had exposed the leader of the Batkivshchyna faction, Yulia Tymoshenko.

“That’s Yulia Tymoshenko. She negotiated with several MPs about transferring or informally joining the Batkivshchyna faction for money. One of the MPs recorded the conversation and handed the materials over to the NABU,” the MP said.

According to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the SAP, this concerns attempts to influence voting in parliament on specific bills.

What are the suspicions about — the SAPO’s position

The SAPO statement says that law enforcement officers exposed the leader of one of the Verkhovna Rada factions for offering illegal benefits to MPs who are not members of his faction in exchange for voting “for” or “against” certain bills.

“NABU and SAP exposed the leader of one of the parliamentary factions of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for offering illegal benefits… for voting “for” or “against” specific bills,” the SAP statement said.

Criminal classification

Law enforcement officials report a preliminary classification under Part 4 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — offering, promising, or providing unlawful benefits to a public official. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of four to eight years.

It is emphasized that this is a preliminary legal assessment, and only a court can make final conclusions.

What’s next

NABU and SAPO have announced that details of the case will be made public at a later date. At this stage, the focus is on procedural actions and preliminary classification, without establishing the guilt of specific individuals in court.
