The current MP of Ukraine has been served with a notice of suspicion of legalization (laundering) of the proceeds of crime. This was reported by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

It is about more than UAH 9 million, which, according to the investigation, the MP tried to hide through a scheme with fictitious services and the purchase of luxury cars.

The NABU does not name the MP, but the case file shows that it is Yevhen Shevchenko.

Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a member of the Voice faction, also noted in his Telegram that Yevhen Shevchenko, a former member of the Servant of the People faction, was involved.

How the scheme worked

The investigation found that the MP seized funds from a private enterprise by promising to help obtain a permit for cross-border transportation of mineral fertilizers. Having received the money on the account of a close person, he did not fulfill any of the promised actions.

To conceal the origin of the funds, the MP, according to the investigation, transferred more than UAH 9 million to the accounts of a law firm owned by his close relative under the guise of “payment for legal services.”

After that, part of the funds was transferred to other accounts and spent on the purchase of two premium cars – BMW X5 M (F95) and Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG.

Subsequently, the MP began to openly use these cars, creating the impression that they were purchased with legal business income.

As a result, the deputy was served a notice of suspicion of money laundering under Part 2 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 5 to 8 years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

Currently, Yevhen Shevchenko is in a pre-trial detention center in the case of high treason. on October 9, the Pecherskyi District Court of Kyiv extended his detention until November 14.

Who is Yevhen Shevchenko?

Yevhen Shevchenko is a former member of the Verkhovna Rada elected from the Servant of the People party, who later joined the political wing of the banned OPFL, Restoration of Ukraine.

Two criminal cases have already been opened against him under the article “high treason”.

In April 2021, Shevchenko met with self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk, stating that “a third of Ukrainians would like to see Lukashenko as their president.”

Later, he called himself an “intelligence agent,” but the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense denied any connection to the GUR.

After the start of the full-scale invasion, Shevchenko publicly called on Volodymyr Zelenskyy to negotiate with Putin, saying that if the president refused, “he would be forced to leave.”

In June 2025, Shevchenko was notified of another suspicion of treason – according to the investigation, he worked for Russia even after February 24, 2022.

Currently, Shevchenko is in custody, and the NABU is investigating a new episode – the laundering of more than 9 million hryvnias of criminally obtained money.
