Super complicated situation: lights will be switched off for half a day in winter in Ukraine

In winter, Ukraine may not have electricity for 10 hours a day due to a capacity shortage and new shelling by the Russian Armed Forces. This was stated in a commentary to KIEV24 by a member of the Committee on Energy, Housing and Utilities Serhiy Nagornyak, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to him, even the increase in electricity tariffs recently introduced in Ukraine will not guarantee that people will have electricity 24 hours a day.

“The situation is really very complicated and we see it at the beginning of summer and it will be even more complicated in winter, unfortunately. In winter, we will have to count on the fact that at temperatures of -10 degrees, Ukrainians will be with light for 14 hours a day and without it for 10 hours. This may be an average scenario,” said Sergiy Nagornyak.

What is the current situation in the power system?

Following the attacks by the Russian Armed Forces on 4 June, Ukraine introduced power cuts. In Donetsk Oblast, 5.1 thousand customers were cut off from electricity supply due to enemy shelling. In Kyiv region, 578 customers in one of the settlements remain without power due to an emergency outage.

In Lviv Oblast, 48 settlements remain without power due to a thunderstorm. 37,300 customers in Kharkiv Oblast remain without power due to hostilities.

A difficult power situation occurred in Kyiv on Tuesday, 4 June. Ukrenergo announced emergency blackouts for the capital. According to YASNO CEO Serhiy Kovalenko, the reason for these blackouts was that the capital exceeded the electricity consumption limits. That is why the city’s blackout schedules are currently not working.
