Naftogaz warns of a shortage: gas prices for residential customers may rise in the near future
22 March 21:15
Naftogaz risks entering the next heating season with a gas shortage, posing a real threat of price hikes for residential consumers. This is according to energy market participants.
“First Business”writes about this, as reported by [Komersant].
The key problem is a lack of funds. The company does not have sufficient financial resources to purchase the necessary volumes of imported gas and build up reserves in underground storage facilities.
Analysts emphasize that the current tariff does not cover the full cost—specifically, the costs of purchasing, transporting, and storing gas. Against this backdrop, rising prices in Europe only intensify the financial pressure on the company.
The government has not yet announced a tariff review, but acknowledges the difficult situation. The stability of gas supplies directly depends on procurement opportunities during the off-season and international support.
Experts warn that in the event of a resource shortage, a tariff increase may become inevitable. This, in turn, will affect the overall level of utility bills for Ukrainians.
Final decisions on tariffs will be made after assessing gas reserves in storage facilities and forecasts for the upcoming heating season.
