Oil terminal and refinery: Ukrainian Armed Forces strike Russian strategic targets

23 March 13:40

The Ukrainian Armed Forces struck the “Transneft – Primorsk Port” oil terminal and the “Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim” oil refinery, according to a statement from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

“Yesterday and overnight on March 23, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck key fuel and energy infrastructure facilities of the Russian Federation,” the General Staff stated.

In particular, the “Transneft – Primorsk Port” oil terminal (Primorsk, Leningrad Oblast, Russian Federation) was struck. According to preliminary information, both the tank farm and the oil loading infrastructure were hit. A fire on the facility’s grounds has been confirmed.

“About 60 million tons of oil pass through the Port of Primorsk annually. The aggressor country uses the proceeds from oil sales to continue the war against Ukraine and support the Russian occupation army.”

The Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim oil refinery (Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan, Russian Federation) has also been struck—a fire on the facility’s grounds has been confirmed.

“The Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim oil refinery is a crucial link in the fuel supply chain for the Russian armed forces. Its crude oil processing capacity is approximately 6–8 million tons per year.”

As clarified by the General Staff, the refinery is located a considerable distance from Ukraine’s state border, approximately 1,400 km away.

“These facilities ensure the refining of crude oil, as well as the storage and transportation of fuel and lubricants used to meet the needs of the occupying army,” the General Staff reported.

The extent of the damage is being assessed.

“The Ukrainian defense forces will continue to strike key enemy targets until the Russian Federation’s armed aggression against Ukraine is completely halted,” the statement reads.

The company “Bashneft” (part of “Rosneft”) operates three large oil refineries located virtually side by side: “Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim,” “Bashneft-Novoyl,” and “Bashneft-UNPZ”.

The port of Primorsk in the Leningrad Oblast is Russia’s largest oil-loading port on the Baltic Sea and the terminus of the Baltic Pipeline System.
