MPs want to introduce a tax on all parcels from abroad up to €150

The Verkhovna Rada wants to introduce taxation on all parcels from abroad, including those worth less than 150 euros. This was stated by Danylo Hetmantsev, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing NV.

“Speaking to business, I have not heard any other approach – the EUR 150 exemption should be removed. We are finalising the relevant draft law and will submit it, we will not delay,” the MP said.

According to him, the taxation will be introduced despite the fact that “a certain segment of the population will be dissatisfied”.

He is convinced that the provision on the non-application of VAT to postal parcels from abroad worth up to 150 euros creates “distortions” in taxation.

“For some reason, we are supporting a foreign producer. Our manufacturer, who produces goods ranging from food to light industry, pays VAT. But the one who does it in a conventional China does not pay VAT. From the point of view of the state tax policy, this is absolute nonsense, nonsense. We are oppressing people who create added value here and pay taxes in favour of people we don’t even know,” said Getmantsev.

He added that the government recognised the need for this decision too late.

Earlier it was reported that government officials want to tax foreign parcels worth more than 45 euros.
