Consequences of Russian shelling: emergency blackouts introduced in 9 regions of Ukraine

16 October 11:21

On the night of October 16, Russia once again carried out drone strikes on power facilities in several regions of Ukraine. As a result, consumers in several regions are without power in the morning. This was reported by Ukrenergo, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

The state of Ukraine’s power system remains tense. Electricity consumption remains high, but several regions were left without power due to nighttime shelling.

Due to the difficult situation in the power grid, emergency blackouts have been introduced in Kyiv, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, Dnipro, Zhytomyr and parts of Khmelnytsky and Cherkasy regions. The restrictions are imposed due to the consequences of previous Russian strikes on energy infrastructure.

In Chernihiv region, the regional power company introduced hourly power outages in three phases due to systematic enemy attacks on the region’s energy facilities. Emergency repair works are ongoing.

Also, from 16:00 until the end of the day, power curtailment schedules for industrial consumers may be introduced in two stages in all regions of Ukraine.

Electricity consumption

Today, on October 16, as of 7:30 a.m., electricity consumption remained at the level of the previous day. The high demand is due to cloudy and cold weather in most regions of Ukraine.

Yesterday, on October 15, the daily maximum consumption was recorded in the morning and was the same as the previous day.

Due to the persistently high demand for electricity, Ukrainians are urged to be economical: do not turn on several powerful electrical appliances at the same time.

Recommendations for consumers

The need for economical energy consumption remains throughout the day. Ukrenergo urges Ukrainians not to turn on several powerful electrical appliances at the same time.

The situation in the power system can change rapidly. All relevant messages regarding electricity supply and schedules of restrictions should be monitored on the official websites and social media pages of the regional power distribution companies.

It should be noted that on October 15, emergency blackouts were applied almost all over Ukraine.
