The biggest threat to citizens visiting cemeteries on memorial days is explosive devices and shelling by the Russian army.
This was reported by Anatoliy Seredynsky, deputy head of the Preventive Activities Department of the National Police of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“The most serious dangers that citizens can encounter when visiting cemeteries are unexploded shells or any other ammunition that is there. It is possible that there are various types of explosive devices that have not yet been examined… It is also shelling, which can occur in the case of a large gathering of citizens, and this can happen if several dozen citizens visit the cemetery. The enemy may regard this as a concentration of military personnel, and accordingly try to attack such areas,” said Seredynsky, according to Ukrinform.
He called on citizens who find such objects not to manipulate them, to move to a safe distance and call the police so that specialists can examine the object.
“We are currently inspecting individual cemeteries for their safety, our colleagues from the explosive ordnance disposal units are doing this. We are also holding a number of meetings related to the introduction of bans on visiting cemeteries. This primarily concerns the frontline and de-occupied territories. We already have such decisions in the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv and Zhytomyr regions to ban visits to certain cemeteries in certain territorial communities – there are about a thousand of them. I appeal to citizens to comply with these requirements and prohibitions, as they are extremely simple, but they allow us to preserve the health and lives of our people,” Seredyndsky emphasized.
