Energy sector earned the most: top 1000 Ukrainian companies received UAH 8.2 trillion in revenue in 2024

In 2024, the top 1,000 Ukrainian companies generated a total of UAH 8.2 trillion in net income, up 15% from a year earlier. The electricity sector became the leader in terms of profits, surpassing the oil and gas sector for the first time.

This is stated in the annual YouControl study, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Key data of the study:

  • Electricity sector – UAH 1.4 trillion (16.7% of the top 1000 revenues);
  • Oil and gas sector – 15.4%;
  • Next: retail trade (9.6%), agriculture (8.9%), food industry (8.4%) and metallurgy (6.9%).

The sectors with revenues between 3% and 6% remain: wholesale trade, transport and logistics, tobacco and pharmaceuticals, machine building, automotive and chemicals.

A drop in revenues was observed in some industries:

  • wholesale trade – by 7%,
  • coal industry – by 12%,
  • IT – by 3.4%,
  • hotel and restaurant business – by 24%,
  • scientific research – by 54%.

Geography of big business:

  • 426 companies out of the top 1000 are registered in Kyiv, generating 52% of revenue;
  • another 26% are companies from Dnipropetrovs’k, Kyiv, Lviv, and Zaporizhzhia regions;
  • at the same time, business activity in the frontline regions of Odesa, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kherson oblasts has significantly decreased.

Most of the companies on the list are 3 to 10 years old. This indicates the dynamic development of businesses established after 2014.

Rotation in the rating:

  • Compared to 2023, the composition of the top 1000 has been updated by 22%: 216 companies dropped out, in particular due to a drop in revenue, bankruptcy, or destruction.
