The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption is still checking the 2023 declaration of MP Roman Ivanisov, whose family purchased cars and housing worth almost two million dollars during his term as MP, although the total amount of cash savings was almost half that. This was reported by the NACP in response to a request from "Komersant Ukrainian".
“On 22.07.2024, a full audit of the annual declaration for 2023 submitted by the People’s Deputy of Ukraine Roman Ivanisov was launched. As of 04.10.2024, the full verification of the declaration is ongoing,” the NACP said.
The agency also noted that during the verification, it takes into account the data on Ivanisov that was published by journalists.
“Information received from individuals and legal entities, the media and other sources about the possible reflection of inaccurate information in the declaration may be the basis for
full verification of the declaration. In addition, guided by subparagraph 4 of paragraph 5 of Section V of the Procedure, during the full verification of the declaration, the National Agency uses information from the media, the Internet, and other sources of information relating to a particular declarant and/or their family members, containing information on the market value (price) of the declared objects and other verifiable factual data,” the NACP added.
As a reminder, Bihus.Info journalists recently published an investigation in which they drew attention to suspicious financial data in the declaration of MP Roman Ivanisov during the 2019 parliamentary elections. His declaration showed minimal income and assets, but at the same time, he had significant cash savings of approximately one million dollars.
According to the investigators, it is unclear how such a large sum was accumulated, as before his election as a member of parliament, Ivanov declared a small income from renting property, his own salary of UAH 56,000 and his wife’s income, which in 2019 amounted to UAH 37,000.
In 2020, Ivanov’s wife, Maryna, began to actively spend the money she had saved. In February and April 2020, she purchased two new Mercedes cars – a GLE350 and a GLS400 – at a cost of around $200,000. In addition, she bought two apartments, three parking spaces and three bicycle racks in the Manhattan city residential complex near the Kyiv railway station, which cost $320,000. In 2021, she also bought a new Volkswagen Multivan for $90,000.
After the start of the Russian invasion in autumn 2022, Ivanisov bought two more apartments in Kyiv, investing more than UAH 12 million, which he said belonged to his mother, Iryna Ivanisova. The MP’s mother, who is 66 years old, works as an entrepreneur in the temporarily occupied Berdiansk. According to her, these funds were earned over many years of business activity and thanks to her mother’s savings.
Journalists also emphasise that, despite her large investments in Kyiv real estate, the MP’s mother remains in Berdiansk, where she has already re-registered her business in accordance with Russian law.
In 2023, the Ivanisov family continued to invest in real estate. The MP’s wife bought three plots of land and a cottage in the Ariel Village cottage community near Kyiv. Despite the fact that the houses in this complex were sold for at least UAH 30 million, Ivanisova’s declaration stated that they cost just over UAH 3 million.
Ivanisov, who was elected to parliament from the Servant of the People party, soon found himself at the centre of two scandals. In the autumn of 2019, it became known that he had been convicted of gang rape, which was confirmed by the then Prosecutor General Ruslan Riaboshapka. Although the conviction had already been expunged, Ivanisov remained in his position. It was also reported that Ivanisov had falsely stated that he had two degrees, as the universities denied that he had graduated.
As a result, he was expelled from the Servant of the People faction, but continues to work as a member of the Restoration of Ukraine parliamentary group.
