NBU issues commemorative coin “Year of the Horse”: where to buy it

The National Bank of Ukraine has unveiled a new commemorative coin, the Year of the Horse, dedicated to the symbol of 2026 according to the Chinese Eastern calendar. This was reported by the regulator’s press service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
What the coin symbolizes
The NBU reminded that in 2026, according to Chinese astrology, the year of the Fire (Red) Horse will be marked by the symbol of activity, love of life, independence, endurance, and determination.
“The horse is the seventh sign of the eastern calendar, representing activity, love of life, independence, endurance and determination. It also represents dynamism, determination and the desire for freedom,” the National Bank said.

Design: a horseshoe that brings good luck
The reverse depicts a stylized symbol of the Eastern calendar for 2026 – a horse on a horseshoe background.
The horseshoe symbolizes good luck and protection, which we wish to Ukrainian defenders.
Below this image, there are three dots – a symbol of the continuation of the struggle.
The mane of the horse conveys the dynamics of movement “upwind” or “downwind” – a metaphor for inner strength, resistance and the desire for freedom.
The obverse features 12 symbols of the eastern calendar in a circle, with a stylized clock in the center of the circle with an arrow pointing to the Chinese zodiac sign that will preside in 2026.
The coin was designed by artist Maryna Kuts and sculpted by Volodymyr Atamanchuk.
Specifications and release date
The Year of the Horse commemorative coin was put into circulation on November 3, 2025.
Nominal value: 5 hryvnias
Mintage: 80,000 pieces
Release: in souvenir packaging.
Where to buy
The coin will be available for purchase starting November 4 in the NBU’s online store, as well as in distributor banks after shipment from the NBU Mint.
