Unexpected support: China to provide energy aid package to Ukraine
13 February 14:08
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga said on February 13 that he had invited his Chinese counterpart to visit Ukraine, adding that Beijing could help end the war with Russia, Reuters reports.
“China can play an important role in establishing a just peace for Ukraine. We appreciate China’s support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and we had a very substantive and pragmatic conversation,” Sybiha said after meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
At the same time, the website of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry states that Sibiga informed his Chinese counterpart about the situation on the front lines, Russian attacks on the energy system, and the damage caused to Chinese companies as a result of Russian strikes.
“I am grateful for Beijing’s decision to provide Ukraine with an additional package of humanitarian energy assistance,” the Ukrainian foreign minister added.
Ukraine has received energy assistance from at least 17 countries
Already 17 countries have helped Ukraine with energy equipment amid an extremely difficult situation with electricity supply after Russian strikes.
Italy
In January 2026, Italy began transferring industrial boilers for heating systems to Ukraine. The first phase of assistance involves the supply of about 80 boilers with a capacity of 550 to 3,000 kW to communities where centralized heating systems have been damaged or destroyed.
Belgium
In January 2026, the federal development agency Enabel delivered 22 mobile boiler rooms and three generators with a capacity of 200 and 40 kW to Kyiv, Odesa, and Fastiv.
Czech Republic
As part of the “Heat and Light for Ukraine” project, the Post Bellum organization purchased and transferred 36 generators to the cities of Lviv, Ternopil, Kyiv, Dnipro, Mykolaiv, and Kherson. In addition, the organization Člověk v tísni, together with SOS Ukraine, signed an agreement for a grant of €850,000 for the purchase of energy equipment.
Romania
The energy company Expert Petroleum sent humanitarian aid worth about €20,000 to the Sumy Regional State Administration, including 15 EcoFlow battery stations and a diesel generator.
Bulgaria
The Ukrainian Embassy in Bulgaria donated 17 generators of various capacities.
Denmark
The Bevar Ukraine organization donated two industrial uninterruptible power supply stations with a capacity of 100 and 80 kW, as well as a 22 kW generator for one of the hospitals in Kyiv.
Croatia
Donated two powerful generators to the Sumy Regional State Administration and is preparing to send two more to the Kyiv and Sumy regions.
European Union
In January 2026, it decided to donate 445 generators from the rescEU reserves to Ukraine.
Switzerland
Preparations are underway to supply four medium-power emergency generators from the canton of Thurgau.
Moldova
On January 16, it transferred 14 generators for the needs of the Sumy region.
Norway, Germany, Austria, and the United Kingdom
Focused their support on financing Ukraine’s energy sector: Norway – $200 million, Germany and Austria – €60 million, Great Britain – £20 million.
Lithuania
Provided additional energy equipment, including generators, electrical components, and emergency repair kits for energy infrastructure facilities.
Poland
In January 2026, it provided diesel generators for critical infrastructure and social services, including as part of the “Heat for Kyiv” initiative, which raised over $1 million.
Georgia
Transferred nine industrial generators worth over $553,000 to the Sumy Regional State Administration.
It should be noted that the Georgian authorities have an ambiguous position on Russia’s war against Ukraine and refuse to provide assistance to Ukrainian defenders.
Armenia
Will transfer 10 mobile inverter generators to kindergartens, schools, and medical institutions in frontline regions.
Strikes on energy facilities
It should be recalled that Russian occupiers have been striking energy facilities since the first year of the full-scale war against Ukraine.
This winter, the situation is the most difficult since the beginning of the invasion.
