on August 2, a Russian Tu-22M3 supersonic strategic bomber was spotted over the Black Sea. The appearance of this aircraft for the first time in a long time was an unusual situation.
This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the comment of the spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy Dmytro Pletenchuk during a telethon.
After the Tu-22M3 bomber appeared over the Black Sea, missiles were launched, and explosions were heard in Mykolaiv and Kherson.
“Even now I’m not ready to remember the last time they (strategic aviation aircraft – Channel 24) were seen here. Those were the carriers of the “Daggers” back then, and for the most part, those were signals not even for us, but for the events that were taking place in the Mediterranean. That is why the situation that was announced (the appearance of the Tu-22M3 bomber – ed.) is a bit unusual,” explained Pletenchuk.
The Navy spokesman also emphasized that the situation is currently being analyzed.
In addition, he said, there is high activity of Russian aviation over the Black Sea: dozens of flights of airplanes, helicopters and launches of various types of drones are recorded daily. As for the types of drones, they range from the oldest to the latest models.
Russia also uses a wide range of aircraft, from outdated Be-12 and Be-200 aircraft to the modern fifth-generation Su-57 fighter jet. Each of them performs its own tasks: some are used for reconnaissance, some for patrolling, and helicopters are mainly used in anti-drone warfare.
Dmytro Pletenchuk added that tactical aviation is used for strikes, “but strategic aviation is a rare guest here.”
