Night under the rubble: how the search for people continues after the attack on Ternopil

In Ternopil, the aftermath of the massive Russian attack that took place on the morning of November 19 continues to be dealt with. As of the morning of November 20, the number of victims remains unchanged. This was reported by the State Emergency Service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Victims and injured
According to official information, 26 people died as a result of the strike, including three children.
93 people were injured, including 18 children.
Rescuers managed to save 46 people.
Another 26 people are still missing and the search is ongoing.








How the operation is going
The SES units worked all night. During this time, they
- dismantled more than 700 square meters of rubble;
- removed about 230 cubic meters of destroyed structures.
The search teams had difficulty working due to the large number of concrete and metal fragments, large-scale destruction and the need to do some of the work manually.
The operation involves forces and equipment from nine regions of Ukraine – a total of more than 230 rescuers and 50 vehicles.
What is known about the attack
According to the Air Force, the Russian Federation attacked residential areas of Ternopil with a combined attack using drones and missiles. In particular, X-101 cruise missiles fired from Tu-95MS bombers were used.
Experts have found that one of the Russian missiles that hit the city was manufactured in the fourth quarter of 2025, which indicates the continuous production and supply of new ammunition to continue the war.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
