The Netherlands has announced the allocation of another 250 million euros for the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine under the new PURL program, a joint initiative of the United States and NATO allies to ensure stable and rapid supply of modern weapons to the Ukrainian army.
This was announced by the Dutch Ministry of Defense, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
What the Ministry of Defense says
The Ministry of Defense emphasized that the additional funding will allow the purchase of missiles for air defense systems, ammunition for F-16 fighters and new unmanned systems. All of these weapons are on the list of critical needs for Ukraine, which continues to strengthen its defense and increase the effectiveness of air support.
The head of the Dutch Defense Ministry, Ruben Brekelmans, said that partner countries should not reduce the intensity of assistance at a time when diplomatic efforts are underway for possible peace talks. According to him, military support remains a key factor in shaping Ukraine’s position at the negotiating table.
“Peace talks should not distract attention from the full and massive support for Ukraine. It is very important to keep the pressure on Russia high, both through diplomatic and economic channels and through military supplies,” emphasized Brekelmans.
What is known about PURL
PURL is a new mechanism of the United States and NATO created to speed up the procurement and transfer of American weapons to Ukraine. The program provides for centralized orders from allies, which should shorten delivery times, stabilize funding, and increase the predictability of aid.
TheNetherlands is one of the first countries to actively use the PURL, and the new €250 million tranche demonstrates its intention to continue military support for Kyiv at a key time of war and diplomatic activity.
