The German government plans to significantly increase its assistance to Ukraine in countering Russian aggression: in 2026, it wants to allocate more than 11.5 billion euros. These figures are stated in the submission of the Ministry of Finance, which was submitted for final approval to the Bundestag Budget Committee, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
In general, Germany has a budget of about 524 billion euros for the next year, which is more than 4 billion euros more than the previous version.
Borrowing will also increase: the government plans to raise about 97 billion euros, which is 8 billion more than the original plan. Berlin wants to arrange more than 57 billion euros of this amount through the so-called “sectoral exception” – a special mechanism that allows exceeding the usual budgetary restrictions when it comes to defense and critical security. It is under this approach that an additional €3 billion is envisaged for military support to Ukraine.
