A note of protest to Ukraine: Iran reacts to words about Israel

The head of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Tehran, Kyrylo Pozdnyakov, was summoned to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, he was handed an official note of protest. This is stated in a statement by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing ISNA.

The Ukrainian diplomat was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry because of allegedly unfounded statements by some Ukrainian officials about Israel’s war with Iran. It was not specified what kind of statements were made.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed a “strong protest” to the Charge d’Affaires of Ukraine.

Iranian Foreign Ministry official Shahram Farsai said that the Ukrainian authorities allegedly “ignore Ukraine’s international legal obligations to comply with the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, as well as the four Geneva Conventions.” He accused Kyiv of supporting “Israel’s military aggression.”

For his part, Pozdnyakov promised to send a note of protest to the Ukrainian government in the near future.

It is worth noting that Tehran’s accusations look rather contradictory and cynical, given the fact that it is Iran that supplies the Russian Federation with Shahed-type attack drones, which are regularly used against Ukrainian cities and have caused numerous civilian casualties.

As a reminder, on June 13, Israel launched a large-scale bombing campaign against Iranian nuclear facilities, killing many high-ranking commanders – mostly from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps – and nuclear scientists.

Iran responded with missile and drone strikes on Israeli cities.

on June 23, the United States, allied with Israel, launched its own strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz. After that, Iran attacked an American military base in Qatar, causing no casualties. And on June 24, a ceasefire between Israel and Iran was announced with the mediation of the United States.

Israel, the United States and other Western countries insist that Iran will not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. Tehran maintains that its nuclear program is exclusively for peaceful purposes.
