New hope after a bad scalpel: plastic surgery victims have a chance for recovery

25 July 2025 19:33

A special commission is being set up in Ukraine for patients who have experienced complications after plastic surgery. The initiator was the Ukrainian Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Dermatological Aesthetic Surgery (UPRADAS) with the participation of renowned surgeon Denys Yurchenko, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing Fakty.

The commission is to become a platform for considering conflict or complex clinical situations related to the consequences of interventions in the field of aesthetic surgery.

The main goal of the initiative is to provide patients with an objective professional assessment of their condition after surgery and, if necessary, to offer options for further action, including corrective interventions or additional rehabilitation. At the same time, the patient retains the right to choose a doctor. The cost of such consultations will be lower than in private clinics, and in some cases, free of charge.

Doctors sometimes have complications with patients. I am not an exception. But it is important to have a mechanism to respond to them with care, calmly and professionally,” says Denys Yurchenko.

“The Commission will be able to form independent consultations of leading experts, and in complex or high-profile cases, even involve international experts. This will help to avoid both legal conflicts and public scandals that damage confidence in the medical system.

In the future, it is planned to create a unified electronic database of anonymized cases of complications for both medical statistics and to improve the quality of training. The commission is expected to start working in August 2025, and not only patients but also doctors seeking professional support or advice in difficult cases will be able to apply to it. This is the first step towards creating a transparent system of professional ethics and mutual responsibility in aesthetic medicine in Ukraine.

The UPRADAS Association is engaged in the regulation of the industry, including aesthetic medicine and surgical dermatology.

UPRADA is an acronym for the Ukrainian Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Dermatological Aesthetic Surgery, Oncoplastic Mammology (UPRADAS or UPRADA). This association unites Ukrainian specialists in the field of plastic, reconstructive and dermatological aesthetic surgery, as well as oncoplastic mammology.

The UPRADAS initiative was launched by Ukrainian surgeons Denis Yurchenko and Sergey Derbak. Its goal is to consolidate experts to raise professional standards, implement international protocols and ensure patient safety.

UPRADAS actively supports the professional growth of doctors by organizing conferences and seminars. It also works closely with professional non-governmental organizations such as the Ukrainian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (USAPS). The goal of the cooperation is to increase the level of professionalism of Ukrainian plastic surgeons and integrate with the international community through the introduction of modern treatment standards and patient safety.

The key functions and objectives of UPRADAS include:

  • development of professional education and regular exchange of clinical practice;
  • ensuring independent review of complications through consultations and consultations;
  • promotion of evidence-based medicine and treatment protocols that meet international standards;
  • support and ethical guidance for doctors and patients in difficult clinical situations.

This makes UPRADAS one of the key players in the field of aesthetic medicine in Ukraine.
