The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) has clarified new rules for tourists planning to visit mountain routes in the border area. From now on, access to these routes will require a special permit from the Chernivtsi border guard detachment, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing the SBGS press service.
SBGS spokesperson Andriy Demchenko explained that these measures are related to the existing border regime, which applies to a 5km wide strip along the border. Border guard detachments have the right to impose additional restrictions in this area if necessary.
“There is such a thing as a border regime, which is defined by Government Resolution No. 1147. It applies to a 5km border strip along the border. Also, in the case of peculiarities in the areas, border guard detachments may impose additional restrictions in the border area. This applies to the area with tourist routes, which is the responsibility of the Chernivtsi border guard detachment. But if people apply for a permit to the Chernivtsi border guard detachment, such applications will be considered,”
– said the spokesman.
These restrictions have already affected some popular tourist routes. As previously reported, the State Border Guard Service has imposed a temporary ban on visiting the two-thousand-metre-high mountains of Pip Ivan and Brebeneskul, as well as more than 20 other popular hiking routes in Verkhovyna district of Ivano-Frankivsk region.
