New power outages in four regions: Ukrenergo reports on the situation in the power grid
17 March 12:07
Due to new Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, additional power outages have been reported in several regions of Ukraine. At the same time, electricity consumption has risen due to weather conditions. This was reported by the national energy company “Ukrenergo,” according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
Where new power outages have been reported
According to energy officials, new power outages have occurred in the following regions:
- Dnipropetrovsk
- Odesa
- Kharkiv
- Chernihiv.
The company notes that emergency crews are already working to repair the damage caused by shelling wherever the security situation allows.
Why electricity consumption has increased
As of the morning of March 17, electricity consumption in Ukraine was 1.9% higher than at the same time the previous day.
The main reason cited is cloudy weather, which reduces the efficiency of residential solar power plants. This increases the load on the overall power grid.
Energy sector recommendations for the public
Ukrenergo urges Ukrainians to use electricity rationally and, if possible, to shift the use of energy-intensive appliances to daytime hours.
Specifically, the best time for active electricity consumption is:
from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., when solar power plants operate most efficiently.
Energy experts also recommend:
- not to turn on several powerful electrical appliances at the same time
- limit the use of appliances during peak hours
- follow the recommendations of the regional power company.
Will there be restrictions for the general public?
Currently, power restriction schedules apply primarily to industrial enterprises. At the same time, the situation in the power grid remains challenging and may change depending on consumption levels and the effects of shelling.
Specialists continue restoration work and monitor the condition of the power grids.
