New samples of women’s winter clothing will be tested in “combat” conditions

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is launching military (pilot) tests of new winter clothing and underwear designed for female soldiers based on anthropometric data. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the defense ministry, there is an urgent need to develop new winter windproof jackets and pants, as well as demi-season and winter underwear. The corresponding samples will be investigated.
The main requirements for these items are defined by the technical specifications of the Ministry of Defense.
“The Ministry of Defense is improving the clothing supply of servicewomen, making constructive changes to clothing and personal protective equipment, taking into account the anthropological characteristics of women. We must provide women with comfortable clothing that meets their needs and allows them to perform combat and special tasks more effectively,” said Deputy Defense Minister Dmytro Klimenkov.
The Ministry of Defense invited interested manufacturers (suppliers) to notify the Central Logistics Development Directorate and the Logistics Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by November 25, 2024, of the possibility of manufacturing and providing at least 11 sets (units) of the above items free of charge for military (research) tests. All applications for participation in the trials must be submitted exclusively through the MoD Partner portal (https://partner.mod.gov.ua/).
How the Ministry of Defense provides military women with clothing
This week, a working meeting was held between representatives of the Ministry of Defense and NGOs that support women in the army and meet their needs, including clothing.
The meeting focused on expanding the range of clothing and personal protective equipment for military women. It was noted that field suits and women’s underwear have already been purchased and are being issued. Small sizes of socks, gloves, and shoes for women are also available. In addition, two reference designs for women’s body armor have been approved, and demi-season underwear, cold weather underwear, and winter jackets and pants are being tested.
It was also reported that in total, in 2024, the procurement agency of the Ministry of Defense purchased women’s clothing, namely field suits and underwear, for UAH 158.3 million.
