NVIDIA and Uber are teaming up to launch the world’s largest robotaxi network: what we know
29 October 17:25
NVIDIA has announced a large-scale partnership with Uber to create a global network of next-generation autonomous cars, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the company’s statement, the goal is to deploy a fleet of 100,000 robotaxis powered by NVIDIA artificial intelligence by 2027.
This is one of the most ambitious projects in the field of autonomous transportation, which can significantly change the passenger transportation industry and make Uber the first platform to introduce self-driving cars on a large scale.
How the system will work
As part of the agreement, NVIDIA is providing Uber with its DRIVE platform, a set of hardware and software solutions for navigation, sensor analysis, and unattended vehicle control.
In addition, the companies are creating a “data factory” – a specialized infrastructure based on NVIDIA Cosmos that will process the huge amounts of information needed to train autonomous systems.
This cooperation allows Uber not only to upgrade its own fleet but also to offer solutions for partner companies operating in the transportation or delivery industry.
What the company says
“Together with Uber, we are creating the foundation for the entire industry to deploy autonomous fleets at scale powered by NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure. What was once science fiction is quickly becoming an everyday reality,”
– NVIDIA noted.
Uber, for its part, says that it sees its partnership with NVIDIA as a way to reduce costs and improve transportation safety, as autonomous cars can operate non-stop and with minimal risk of human error.
What the initiative will change
The initiative could radically change the structure of the global taxi market from a model based on human drivers to fully automated fleets.
According to analysts, if the Uber-NVIDIA project is successful, other tech and transportation companies will also speed up the development of their own autonomous solutions.
At the same time, experts emphasize regulatory and safety risks, from testing systems in real-world traffic to insurance and liability issues in the event of accidents.
Interest in AI-based solutions is also growing in Ukraine
According to research, the share of small and medium-sized businesses actively implementing AI tools has doubled to 42% over the year.
Experts expect that global trends, in particular in the field of autonomous transport, will gradually influence local markets, from logistics to municipal transport.
