The chairman of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia, Yevhen Lyashchenko, is resigning. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia.

“The Supervisory Board of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC received a statement from Yevhen Lyashchenko on the early termination of the powers of the Chairman of the Board,” the statement said.

It is noted that the supervisory board intends to consider the application in the coming days. The supervisory board will also make all necessary decisions in accordance with the existing procedures.

Neither the company nor Lyashchenko explained the reason for this decision.

Ukrinform’s sources said that Oleksandr Pertsovsky, head of UZ’s passenger division, is likely to become the new chairman of the board.

The source said that Lyashchenko himself will continue to work in the team as a member of the board and will be responsible for finances until March.

This decision is due, in particular, to the fact that Lyashchenko’s contract as chairman of the board expires in the new budget year, and all new projects for 2025 should be planned this year, the agency says.

Pertsovsky is expected to accelerate the renewal of passenger cars and freight locomotives, as well as build up the border railway infrastructure. One of the promising plans is to unify track facilities and rolling stock with the European one.

As a reminder, on 21 March 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers, by its resolution, upon the recommendation of the Supervisory Board, appointed Yevhen Liashchenko as Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia. Prior to that, Mr Lyashchenko was responsible for the financial unit of Ukrzaliznytsia.

Yevhen Lyashchenko has been appointed Chairman of the Management Board of Ukrzaliznytsia for a 2-year term.

At the end of February last year, Kamyshin resigned from the board of Ukrzaliznytsia. on 21 March 2023, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Kamyshin as Minister for Strategic Industries.
