Russia has proposed to place images of the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv and Odesa on rubles. In particular, it is a question of changing the design of banknotes with denominations of 10, 50 and 500 rubles.

This was reported by the Russian media, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

What is known about the redesign of rubles

According to the appeal of the head of the A Just Russia party, Sergei Mironov, the design on the 10, 50, and 500 ruble bills should be updated. He proposes to place on them the cities-heroes of the Second World War, including Kyiv, Odesa, Minsk and Sevastopol.

“It was proposed to place Leningrad, Sevastopol, Volgograd, Brest Fortress, Moscow, Kerch, Novorossiysk, Minsk, Tula, Murmansk, Smolensk on the updated banknotes. It is specified that the design of the banknotes should include: “City-hero of the Great Patriotic War,” reads the statement by Sergei Mironov.

According to Sergei Mironov, all of the above cities are allegedly “Russian historical heritage.”

Since 2022, Russia has updated rubles in accordance with federal districts.

Now they show:

  • 100 rubles (2022): Moscow, Rzhev Memorial.
  • 200 rubles (2017): Sevastopol, monument to the sunken ships.
  • 1000 rubles (2023): Nizhny Novgorod, Nikolskaya Tower.
  • 2000 rubles (2017): Vladivostok, Russian Bridge.
  • 5000 rubles (2023): Yekaterinburg, the Main Post Office building.

In addition, there are several commemorative banknotes, for example, the 2014 Olympic Games, etc.

It is likely that the new “Hero City of the Great Patriotic War” banknotes will also be commemorative.

However, it is not known whether the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv and Odesa will be included in their images.
