Odesa region under threat of flooding: forecasters predict three days of intense rains

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has declared thefirst level of danger (yellow) in Odesa region due to a new wave of bad weather, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
- onOctober 07-09, the region is expected to experience heavy rains with a total rainfall of 45-80 mm.
- On the night of October 7, 15-49 mm of precipitation is expected in Odesa and along the coast.
Meteorologists warn that the bad weather could hamper the work of energy, utilities and construction services, as well as traffic.
Implications for the region
Odesa region remains at risk:
- possible flooding of streets and buildings;
- disruption of transportation services;
- threat to infrastructure.
The SES is already urging residents of the region to follow the forecasts and limit their movements during peak precipitation.
Less than two weeks ago, Odesa was hit by a powerful downpour that turned the city into a continuous flood.
- People died, including a child.
- Hundreds of buildings were damaged, and the city’s transportation system came to a virtual standstill.
- The next day, schools and kindergartens remained closed.
- Law enforcement authorities opened a criminal investigation into the consequences of the disaster.
