The Security Service of Ukraine has announced the elimination of another scheme to circumvent sanctions on the supply of Ukrainian products to the aggressor country: it involves high-tech devices that ensure the protection and uninterrupted operation of power grids. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the SBU.

As a result of comprehensive measures, 7 members of a criminal group were detained in Odesa: the founder and top managers of a local company that sold electrical equipment to Russia for Russian military facilities.

These are high-tech devices that ensure the protection and uninterrupted operation of power grids.

According to the investigation, the local company set up a scheme to circumvent sanctions, through which in 2023 products worth more than $1 million were supplied to Russia.

According to preliminary information, the company used a network of controlled companies abroad, in particular in the Middle East.

Initially, the equipment was exported to official intermediaries, who subsequently transferred it to Russian customers. Among the final buyers were sanctioned companies that provide power to military bases of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

According to the SBU, the organizer of the illegal business was the founder of an Odesa-based company. He involved six of his subordinates in the scheme, including the commercial director, two department heads and an accountant.

During the searches of the detainees’ places of work and residence, law enforcement officers seized documents, mobile phones and computer equipment containing evidence of illegal activity.

What punishment does the offender face?

The detainees were served a notice of suspicion under the articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on aiding the aggressor state, as well as creating and managing a criminal organization. The perpetrators face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

All suspects are currently in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
