Oleksandr Povorozniuk, a farmer and owner of Agrofirma Pyatikhatska LLC, spoke about the acute staff shortage that is increasingly affecting the harvesting campaign. He said this in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to him, today’s machinery – combines, tractors, fire trucks – often stand idle due to a lack of drivers.

“Rural harvesting means that both a combine and a tractor have to work in the field at the same time, in case something needs to be plowed. And a fire truck, according to safety regulations.
I had a situation when I arrived at a field and there was a tractor parked there, and it was not clear where the driver was. It turns out that our tractor driver simultaneously drives both the tractor and the fire truck. And if something happens, he leaves the tractor and drives to respond quickly. That’s the staff shortage today,” says the farmer.

The war causes additional losses, emphasizes Povorozniuk.

“Recently, a rocket fell and burned about 200 hectares of wheat. Everything is flying over our heads. Everything is flying over us. What can you do,” he adds.

As written by [Kommersant] previously reported, a rare blackening of wheat has been recorded in Ukraine – for the first time in 30 years.
