The Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has criticized Poland’s decision not to invite a Hungarian representative to the ceremony marking the start of Poland’s presidency of the EU Council. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto’s assessment was published on the social network X, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“Pathetic and childish are the only words I can use to describe this decision,” he said in a statement.
As you know, the official gala ceremony on the occasion of the opening of the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union took place on the evening of January 3 at the Polish National Opera with the participation of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President of the European Council Antonio Costa. In his speech, the Polish Prime Minister emphasized the importance of Poland’s leadership in the Council of the European Union and outlined the main priorities of the presidency for the coming months.
“We have to rediscover the meaning of freedom and the essence of what Europe really stands for,” Donald Tusk emphasized.

What are the priorities of the Polish presidency of the Council of the EU?
Poland is presenting an ambitious presidency program, the main goal of which is to implement the priorities set around the topic of security. The slogan of the presidency also corresponds to these priorities: “Security, Europe!”
“Russia’s ongoing armed aggression against Ukraine threatens the security of the entire continent, but it is also a war against the principles and values that the European Union represents. The Polish Presidency will work to respect and promote them by the EU, emphasizing the special role of civil society,” the Polish Presidency’s program states.
It also emphasizes that Poland will support activities to strengthen European security in many of its dimensions: external, internal, information, economic, energy, food and health.
