Cucumbers are becoming more expensive again: the market cannot keep up with demand

19 January 00:21

Last week, Ukraine saw a rise in prices for greenhouse cucumbers, according to analysts from the EastFruit project, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

Several key factors contributed to this situation. First, demand for cucumbers remained consistently high, with both retail chains and large wholesale companies interested in purchasing. At the same time, the supply of this product on the market remained limited. Market participants noted that harvests at local greenhouse complexes were small and unstable, which is explained by seasonal factors.

As a result, greenhouse cucumbers are currently selling at a price of 115–145 UAH/kg ($2.67–3.36/kg), which is on average 10% more expensive than at the end of the previous working week.

At the same time, this product was steadily imported from abroad, mainly from Turkey. However, despite regular deliveries, the available supply was insufficient to meet the demand. Under these conditions, sellers gradually increased their selling prices for both local and imported vegetables.

It should be noted that greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are currently sold at an average price 15% higher than in the same period last year. Ukrainian greenhouse plants plan to deliver the first batches of new vegetables to the market no earlier than mid-February this year.
