Oles Dovhyi resigned his mandate: a new anti-record in the number of deputies in the Rada

The Verkhovna Rada has one less MP – Oles Dovhyi has officially resigned, and the parliament has set a new anti-record for the number of MPs. This was announced by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak on his Telegram channel, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

Today, on June 19, the Verkhovna Rada voted to resign the mandate of MP Oles Dovhyi.

The decision was supported by 244 deputies.

“244 MPs supported the resignation of Oles Dovhyi. The parliament has set a new anti-record of 398 MPs,” Zheleznyak said.

Thus, the Verkhovna Rada has less than 400 MPs out of the 450 provided for by the Constitution.

The day before, Dovgyi had written a letter of resignation from his parliamentary mandate. He thanked the voters “for their trust and support” over the course of two convocations and explained his decision by saying that he no longer sees “the possibility of being productive in parliament.”

At the same time, he added that he would continue to help the Armed Forces and develop social and charitable projects.

Who is Oles Dovhyi?

oles Dovhyi, 44, was elected to the Verkhovna Rada of the eighth and ninth convocations in early elections in 2014 and 2019, respectively. Prior to that, from 2006 to 2011, he was Deputy Mayor of Kyiv Leonid Chernovetskyi and Secretary of the Kyiv City Council.

Since 1997, he has been an advisor to the Ukrainian Association of Young Lawyers, and later served as its deputy secretary and secretary of the organization’s Kyiv branch.

In 2001-2003, he worked at the Kyiv State University of International Trade and Economics as a researcher and senior researcher at the Research and Analytical Center, and served as an associate professor of the Department of Economics.

In 2004-2005, he was a senior researcher at the Institute of Telecommunications and Global Information Space of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Since 2005, he has been an advisor to the Head of the State Department of Intellectual Property.

In the local elections of 2006, Dovgyi was elected to the Kyiv City Council from the Leonid Chernovetsky Bloc, and on April 28 of the same year was elected Deputy Chairman and Secretary of the Kyiv City Council.

In 2008, in the early elections to the Kyiv City Council, he again became a deputy from the Leonid Chernovetsky Bloc and the Secretary of the Kyiv City Council, resigned from this position in 2011, and became a member of the Kyiv City Council’s Commission on Budget and Socio-Economic Development.

He ran for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 7th convocation as a non-partisan self-nominee in the 214th constituency (Kyiv).

Member of Parliament of Ukraine of the 8th convocation. Non-partisan self-nominated candidate from constituency 102 (Kirovohrad region). He was a member of the “Will of the People” parliamentary group. Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Economic Policy.

In 2019, he was elected to the Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation as a non-partisan self-nominated candidate in constituency 102 (Kirovohrad region). He is not a member of any faction. Member of the Committee on National Health, Medical Assistance and Health Insurance.

In April 2011, he founded the Charitable Foundation “We Can Do It Together” to support educational projects for children, youth and parents. The Foundation’s activities are carried out in three areas: sports and healthy lifestyle, educational programs, and social projects, including the “Let’s Do It Together” project during the quarantine and fight against COVID-19.
