Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestler and MP from the Servant of the People party Zhan Beleniuk said that the Paris Olympics are the last competition of his career. Beleniuk said this in an interview with Champion, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
“At the moment, I am an active athlete, but in a week, most likely, I will retire. At the same time, I work in the Ukrainian parliament, so I definitely have something to do at the moment,” said the Tokyo 2020 champion.
He stressed that he has no big plans for the future, but he definitely wants to focus on his political career.
“I want the war to end on Ukrainian terms. I want our economy to recover. I want millions of Ukrainians to return home, because the second is connected to the third. I want to get security guarantees from our partners. If there is such an enemy as Russia in the neighbourhood that will constantly try to kill you, then only serious security guarantees will allow us to count on a normal, stable life in our country,” the wrestler added.
But he believes that sport will remain in his life forever.
“What my role will be in it is an open question. Maybe I will go into business. Maybe I will play table tennis,” the MP concluded.
It is worth noting that today, 7 August, Beleniuk will start at the 2024 Games in Greco-Roman wrestling in the 87 kg weight category.
jean Beleniuk, 33, is a three-time European champion and two-time world champion. He won silver at the 2016 Olympics and gold at the 2020 Games. After that Olympic championship, he stated that he planned to take a break and plunge into his work at the Council with fresh energy.
