The Windows 11 update has caused a critical error: what is it?
26 January 05:18
The Windows 11 KB5074109 security update from January 13 caused boot failures for some users. Microsoft has officially confirmed the existence of a critical error and announced the start of an investigation, according to the Neowin portal, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
After installing the update, some users are unable to start the system: a black screen with the error UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME appears during boot. Restarting does not restore functionality. It is noted that the problem affects client versions of Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2.
The company emphasizes that the number of complaints is still limited and there is no ready solution at this time.
As a temporary measure, users are advised to use standard system recovery tools. It is noteworthy that the announced Quick Machine Recovery feature, designed for automatic recovery through the WinRE environment, has not proven effective in this case.
This is not the first malfunction in Windows 11 caused by the January update.
