Operation in Kursk region was a ‘surprise’ even for Ukrainian military: officer tells about some details of preparation

EXCLUSIVE
Only a few knew about the operation in the Kursk region. Even partially informed servicemen were convinced that it was something like a campaign by the Freedom of Russia legion in the Belgorod region. This was reported exclusively to Komersant ukrainskyi by an officer of the Defence Forces with the call sign “Tykhyi”.
“I met several high-ranking people from some brigades, and they said they did not know about such an operation. They thought it would be something similar to previous raids on Russia.”
Yevhen “Tykhyi”
A defence officer said that commanders minimised the number of people who could know about the details and scale of the operation. Some soldiers did not even know the location of the operation until the last minute. Moreover, they managed to hide the concentration of troops in the border area from the enemy.
“Officers in the cities, in the rear, were asked not to wear their uniforms off-duty. To avoid attracting attention, they were advised to wear civilian clothes.”

However, there is nothing strange about this request, the officer says. After all, all military personnel wear civilian clothes off duty. In addition, it is necessary for their own safety, as it is no secret that Russian agents are working in Ukraine, Tikhiy said.

The trip to the Kursk region was a brilliantly planned operation
Officer Tykhyi is surprised when he hears sceptics say that there was no plan to seize a large territory of the Russian Federation. They say it was just a diversionary operation that turned out to be more successful than expected.
“Such an operation cannot be carried out only through a happy and accidental coincidence, at least without planning the logistics. This operation is very well planned and involves many teams. This is not just luck.”
Yevhen “Tykhyi”
The officer notes another interesting fact: Ukraine allows our prisoners to fight against Russia, and this case is quite successful.
“They received very good training, excellent equipment and high motivation. There is not a single man among them who refused. Discipline is at a very high level.”
Yevhen “Tykhyi”
Ukraine is likely to try to seize more territory from Russia and hold it. The creation of the Kursk direction allows them to stretch the Russian forces, demoralise individual enemy units and the army as a whole. Now they need to wage war more broadly and less concentrated, says Tikhiy.
As a reminder, during the two weeks of the operation in Kursk, Ukrainian troops managed to take control of more than 1,100 km² of Russian territory. And according to Western media, the Russians were effectively surrounded after three bridges in the Kursk region were blown up. If they manage to surround the enemy, up to 3,000 Russian soldiers may be released to the exchange fund, Bild reports.
