Optimization during wartime: how Ukrposhta is changing its assets

26 February 21:39

Ukrposhta has put up for auction on the Prozorro.Prozori system 20 unused real estate properties with a total area of 32,800 square meters. The starting price of the lots exceeds UAH 200 million.

This was announced by the company’s CEO , Ihor Smelyansky, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

What properties are being sold

According to the CEO, these are properties that are no longer used in operational activities — from a small premises in a village in Zakarpattia to a former sorting center in Lviv with an area of 5,600 square meters.

The company positions the sale as part of its asset optimization strategy.

Savings and expected profits

Ukrposhta expects:

  • savings of over UAH 3 million on maintenance and taxes;
  • tens of millions of hryvnia in profits from the sale.

According to Smiliansky, the proceeds will be used to upgrade the material and technical base.

Why only sales

The head of the company emphasized that these objects cannot be transferred free of charge or transferred to communities, as they are part of the capital of a state-owned joint-stock company.

The only legal way to dispose of such property is through open auctions.

According to the decision of the shareholder, the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine, the funds should be immediately directed towards investments in fixed assets: new vehicles, post offices, sorting lines, and other equipment.

Previous sales experience

Earlier, Ukrposhta completed a second auction for the sale of 716 units of decommissioned Soviet and post-Soviet transport. As a result, the company received 9 million hryvnia.

State-owned companies are trying to cut costs and modernize infrastructure during the war. The sale of non-core or unused assets through electronic auctions has become one of the tools for such a transformation.
