The overwhelming majority of Ukrainians are in favor of ending hostilities and finding a compromise in Russia’s current war against Ukraine. This is evidenced by the results of a poll conducted by the Rating Group sociological group on Sunday, August 31, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to sociologists, 59 percent of respondents support the cessation of hostilities and the search for a compromise in the war, while 20 percent of respondents support the continuation of the war until the return of Donbas and Crimea occupied by Russia in 2014.
The vast majority believes in the possibility of ending the war through negotiations
It is significant that 82 percent of respondents consider negotiations as a realistic way to end the war. Of these, 62 percent support the search for a compromise involving other countries, and 20 percent insist on direct negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow.
Also, according to sociologists, 75 percent of respondents believe that Ukraine should agree to a ceasefire only under the condition of international security guarantees.
What Ukrainians consider effective security guarantees
According to the study, Ukrainians consider funding for the army and arms supplies from partners to be the key security guarantees for Ukraine – 52 percent of respondents said so. This is followed by the commitment of allies to enter the war in case of a second attack, as 48 percent of respondents insist, and then international air and sea patrols – 44 percent of respondents support this type of guarantee.
Moreover, according to sociologists, 58 percent of respondents believe that the most important task at the moment is to obtain a guarantee of funding from Western partners for the Ukrainian army in the future and to supply sufficient weapons. Instead, 31 percent of respondents said that the most important thing is to return the lost territories.
Zaluzhnyi is the most trusted among politicians
Another question sociologists were interested in was which of the current politicians and officials is most trusted among Ukrainians. It turned out that the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and now the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, is the most trusted by the respondents, with 74 percent of those polled expressing their confidence in him. As for the current president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he is trusted by 68 percent of respondents, and the head of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, is trusted by 59 percent of respondents.
However, in the event of a presidential election, current President Zelensky would have the most support – 35 percent of respondents are ready to vote for him. Instead, 25 percent of voters are ready to vote for Zaluzhnyi.
As for the parliamentary elections, the conditional “Zaluzhnyi’s party” would be the undisputed leader, with 24 percent of respondents ready to vote for it, followed by the conditional “Zelenskyi’s bloc” with 20 percent of respondents ready to vote for it. They are followed by European Solidarity, for which 7 percent of respondents are ready to vote, as well as the conditional Budanov Party with 6 percent of support, and the same conditional Azov Party (six percent).
The poll was conducted on August 21-23 by telephone among 1,600 respondents aged 18 and older in all government-controlled regions where Ukrainian mobile phone coverage was available at the time of the survey.
