Hungary will not agree to take Zakarpattia from Ukraine if Russian dictator Vladimir Putin proposes it.
This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in an interview with Matthias Depfner, CEO and co-owner of the German media group Axel Springer, which was published on the MDMEETS YouTube channel, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The prime minister believes that “experience suggests that we should not embark on this adventure.”
Depfner asked Orban which side Hungary would be on if the US president agreed to divide Europe into Western and Russian parts.
The prime minister noted that Hungary is part of Western civilization, but ethnically Hungarians are of Eastern origin. Despite genetic facts, Hungary belongs to the West, Orban added.
In June, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that his country would not allow Ukraine to get closer to joining the European Union until Kyiv returns the rights of the Hungarians in Zakarpattia.
