Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has called “ridiculous” statements that Russia could attack the European Union because, in his opinion, it is not strong enough. He expressed his position in a podcast by Axel Springer Media Group CEO Matthias Depfner published on YouTube, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“With all due respect, I think it is ridiculous to say that Russia will attack the EU or NATO simply because it is not strong enough. We are much stronger than they are. The European Union has more than 400 million people, Russia has about 140 million,” Orban said.

He noted that the military capabilities of the 27 EU countries are far superior to Russia’s. Orban also said that “the Russians have been unable to end the war in Ukraine, the so-called JFO, for more than three years. In this regard, he asked how Europe can claim that it is weaker than Russia.

Prior to that, Orban said that the war in Ukraine would end in the near future. In his opinion, a united position of the West is needed to achieve peace. He also noted that US President Donald Trump is making efforts to establish peace, while EU leaders are pushing Ukraine to continue fighting.
