Autumn with the first snow: bad weather hits Ukraine, power engineers call for frugality

The end of September and beginning of October in Ukraine are expected to be “truly autumnal,” according to the Ukrainian WeatherCenter, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Forecasters predict heavy rains, wind, and a sharp cold snap.
- At night, the temperature will reach 2…9°C, and in the western and central regions, ground frosts of -3°C are possible.
- During the day, the temperature will be 7…14°C in most regions, and up to 17°C in Zakarpattia and the south of the country.
- In the Carpathians, wet snow and temperatures near zero are expected.
Energy challenge
The bad weather has already affected the power grid. Due to cloud cover, solar power plants are operating less efficiently, and the grid continues to recover from Russian attacks.
“Ukrenergo warns of an increase in electricity consumption and asks to use appliances sparingly during peak hours – from 18:00 to 21:00.
Consequences of the bad weather in the regions
- Odesa region: more than 12 thousand subscribers were left without electricity, with Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district suffering the most. Several streets in Odesa were flooded.
- Mykolaiv: a tree fell on a car, no one was injured. At the same time, 20 fires of dead wood and reeds were recorded in the region.
- Ternopil region: 4 power lines were damaged, leaving 1,523 consumers in 11 villages without electricity.
- Carpathians: the temperature on Mount Pip Ivan dropped to -3° and snow fell.
Rescue operations are underway
Search and rescue operations have already been carried out in the snowy Carpathians. A tourist and her child who got lost on Hoverla were unable to continue on their own and were evacuated by rescuers.
