20 August 14:45
The last Ukrposhta branch in the town of Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region, has closed its doors. From now on, residents of the community will not be able to receive traditional postal services here.
The closure was announced by Ukrposhta CEO Ihor Smelyansky, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Ukrposhta explained that the decision is related to the security situation: the city is under constant shelling by the Russian army, and the work of the office poses a threat to both customers and employees.
“We maintained our presence in Konstantinovka until the last moment, but the circumstances force us to change the format of our work. People’s safety is a priority,” the company said.
Instead, the postal operator promises that residents of Konstantinovka will continue to receive pensions, social benefits and parcels through mobile post offices. For this purpose, several mobile teams will work in the city.
According to the company, there are more than 40 mobile offices in the de-occupied and frontline areas of Donetsk region. They work according to a schedule agreed with local military administrations.
Konstantinovka is one of the largest cities in Donetsk Oblast, located just a few dozen kilometers from the front line. It was last subjected to massive shelling in August 2025.
“Ukrposhta emphasizes that once the security situation in the town stabilizes, the stationary office will be reopened.
As a reminder, Ukrposhta continues to operate even in the most dangerous regions of Ukraine.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the company has deployed more than 1400 mobile offices to serve residents of the frontline and de-occupied territories.
It is thanks to these mobile teams that people have access to basic services such as payments, humanitarian aid delivery, parcel delivery, and utility bills.
The company emphasizes that even in the hottest spots they try to ensure the presence of public services.
Current situation in Konstantinovka
Constant shelling and attacks on civilian infrastructure
The city is regularly subjected to massive attacks by Russian forces.
In February 2025, an air strike killed 5 civilians and injured 11 others. More than 50 buildings were damaged, including residential buildings, shops, a pharmacy, and energy and gas infrastructure
.
In addition, on August 19, 2025, the Russians carried out 10 FAB-250 strikes on civilian objects in the city, including residential buildings, administrative buildings, and a school.
Frontline situation: fighting, offensives and defense
ISW analysts noted that in the spring and summer of 2025, Russian troops shifted their focus from the Pokrovsk front to attacking Kostiantynivka, a strategically important point in the Donbas defense line.
In May-June, the situation became more complicated: there was a breakthrough by Russians near Kostiantynivka, as a result of which they managed to take control of the roads connecting the city to other defense lines.
In addition, as far as we know, Russia is taking tactical steps to cut off logistics routes to Pokrovsk and Kramatorsk, threatening to encircle Kostiantynivka and Druzhkivka.
General geographical circumstances
Konstantynivka is located close to the front line and remains in the area of active hostilities all the time. In 2024, due to the shelling, including market and infrastructure strikes, the population decreased significantly and mass evacuations began.
