Five real steps: Zelenskyy announces a large-scale reset of the energy sector

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had held a meeting with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko on further decisions to clean up and reboot the management of the energy sector and related institutions and announced personnel decisions.

He announced this on his Telegram channel, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“First, I instructed the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to submit to the Verkhovna Rada an urgent bill to renew the composition of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission,” Zelensky said.

He also announced the renewal of the leadership of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate and the State Energy Supervision Inspectorate. In addition, he instructed the Prime Minister to submit to the Verkhovna Rada a proposal to appoint the head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine.

“Fourth, in full cooperation with law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies, to ensure the renewal of the Asset Recovery and Management Agency and to promptly complete the competition for the position of the head of ARMA so that the new head of the Agency can be appointed by the end of this year,” Zelenskyy added.

The last point he mentioned was to promptly conduct an audit and prepare for the sale of assets and shares in assets belonging to Russian entities and collaborators who fled to Russia.

“Mindich tapes and personnel changes

on November 10, the NABU and the SAPO exposed a large-scale corruption scheme at the state-owned Energoatom company involving money laundering and illegal enrichment of Ukrainian officials. The losses are estimated at billions of hryvnias, and the scheme’s curator is Timur Mindich, a businessman and former partner of Zelenskyy.

In connection with the scandal, President Zelenskyy announced personnel changes in the government that will affect the ministries of energy and justice, whose heads were involved in the fraud.

It is already known that Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko has resigned, and Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk has also written a letter of resignation. Both ministers were removed from the National Security and Defense Council by Zelenskyy.
