Pope assesses possibility of Vatican mediation on Ukraine
15 September 01:16
Pope Leo XIV called the Vatican’s mediation in the settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian war unrealistic.
This is reported by the Crux portal, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
He noted that he would draw a distinction between the voice of the Holy See, which advocates peace, and its role as a mediator.
“I think people have heard my calls, calls to hear this voice, the voice of Christians and people of good will that peace is the only way out,” the pontiff added.
Leo XIV said that since the beginning of the war, the Vatican has made great efforts to maintain a position that “would not mean taking sides, but remaining neutral.”
The Pope added that both positive and negative aspects can be found in the position of each side.
