The Lithuanian parliament has authorized the army to shoot down air targets more quickly and easily.
This is reported by LRT, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The publication says that the issue of introducing new rules was considered during a meeting on Tuesday, September 23, under an urgent procedure.
Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovile Shakalene noted that the previous rules do not meet modern threats, as before that, military personnel had the right to shoot down drones only in prohibited areas and if they were used as weapons.
“With this amendment to the Statute on the Use of Military Force, we are creating a new legal mechanism so that military force can be used quickly against drones in restricted areas if they are flying in a disorderly manner,” she added.
The innovation also stipulates that civilian aircraft will not be able to fly in restricted areas without special permission.
Prior to that, Doville asked her Spanish counterpart Margarita Robles to shoot down unknown drones using Eurofighter jets in case of violation of the country’s airspace.
