The State Protection Directorate responded to media reports that Andriy Parubiy allegedly asked for help six months before the murder, but was refused.

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Facebook page of the State Protection Department of Ukraine.

The department referred to Article 6 “Ensuring the security of officials” of the Law of Ukraine “On State Protection of State Authorities of Ukraine and Officials” No. 160/98-VR of March 4, 1998.

According to it, security is provided in places of permanent and temporary stay:

  • The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
  • The Prime Minister of Ukraine;
  • The Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine;
  • The President of the Supreme Court;
  • The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine;
  • First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine;
  • Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine;
  • The Prosecutor General;
  • Minister of Defense of Ukraine;
  • deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The agency noted that during the term of office of the officials mentioned in this article, the security of their family members living with them or accompanying them is also ensured.

“After the termination of their powers, these officials are provided with state protection for ONE YEAR, except in cases where a guilty verdict against them enters into force,” the statement said.

The State Protection Department also emphasized that they perform their tasks exclusively within the framework of the current legislation.

As a reminder, MP Andriy Parubiy was killed on Saturday, August 30.
