Pentagon: Ukraine is capable of shooting down Russian drones without NATO help

The Pentagon said not to compare US aid to Ukraine and Israel and said that shooting down drones over Ukraine by NATO troops would be dragging the Alliance into a war. Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said this during a briefing, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

Answering the question whether NATO could shoot down Iranian drones and missiles over Ukraine, as it does in the skies of Israel, Singh stressed the fundamental difference between the situations in the two countries.

“We are talking about two very different landscapes and battlefields. From the very beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the President instructed our department to provide Ukraine with everything it needs to fight,”

– said the Pentagon spokeswoman.

Even shooting down targets over Ukraine from Poland or Romania would involve the Alliance in the war, Singh said.

“It would mean we would be involved in the war in a different way. At the moment, we believe Ukraine is successfully defending itself against Russian attacks on its cities, population and infrastructure. And we will continue to provide them with the necessary support to do so… They have been very successful in using air defence and other capabilities to continue to take back their territory,” she said,

– she said and repeated the traditional White House formula of supporting Ukraine without sending US troops.

As you know, during the full-scale war, Russian drones repeatedly flew into Poland and Romania, but NATO troops did not shoot them down even there.

Earlier, another Pentagon official said that in the Russian-Ukrainian war, the United States is simply supporting a democratic state.
