New Year’s Eve rush: prices for imported tomatoes have risen in Ukraine

15 December 2025 21:49

On the eve of the holidays, Ukraine has seen a rise in the price of greenhouse tomatoes, primarily imported ones, due to high demand. According to analysts at EastFruit, last week, tomatoes from Turkey went up by an average of 10%, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Prices and supply

As of December 13, imported tomatoes go on sale at 70-80 UAH/kg ($1.66-1.89/kg), depending on the quality, variety and volume of the batches. Turkish tomatoes currently account for the majority of the market share, as domestic greenhouse plants have completed their sales season.

Reasons for the growth

The lack of local produce and strong demand allowed traders to raise prices. At the same time, overall prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine remain at the level of last year.

What are the forecasts

Market players expect a further increase in the price of imported tomatoes, as demand remains consistently high during the pre-holiday period.

This season, Ukrainian vegetables are showing different dynamics: white cabbage fell by 78% and greenhouse cucumber is getting cheaper, while imported tomatoes continue to rise in price due to shortages and holiday rush.
