Negotiations in Geneva have ended: Zelenskyy announced the initial results

Negotiations between Ukraine, the US, and Russia, which lasted two days in Geneva, have ended.

According to "Komersant Ukrainian", this was reported to journalists by Diana Davitian, spokesperson for the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

According to her, consultations have been completed both within the political and military groups. The meeting lasted about two hours.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about the initial results of the negotiations between the delegations. According to him, during the two-day negotiations in Geneva, the delegations of Ukraine, Russia, and the United States made significant progress on the military track, but discussions on political issues were difficult.

“As for the substance of the negotiations, well, first of all, you know, there are two areas: military and political. Here I want to say that all three sides were constructive in the military area. In my opinion, in principle, the military understands how to monitor the ceasefire and end the war,” Zelensky said.

According to him, the military, in principle, agreed on almost everything. Monitoring will definitely involve the American side, and this is a constructive signal.

“All other details – where, how to monitor, technical nuances – all this will be reported to me by General (Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andriy – ed.) Gnativ in more detail upon his return,” the President of Ukraine added.

The head of state also noted that the political component includes all sensitive issues: the East, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, etc.

“We see that there is progress, but so far the positions are different because the negotiations were not easy. That is, I heard about progress in the military direction. In the political direction, there was dialogue, and we agreed to move forward,” the head of state summed up.

Zelensky also stressed that since the negotiating team cannot report all the details by phone, there will be more understanding of the results of the negotiations after their return.

Negotiations in Geneva

Today, February 18, the second day of negotiations between Ukraine, the US, and Russia took place in Geneva.

The Russian delegation in Geneva is headed by Putin’s aide Vladimir Medinsky and also includes GRU chief Igor Kostyukov, who represented Russia at the talks in the UAE. According to media reports, the Russian delegation numbers more than 15 people.

Ukraine is represented by NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov, OP head Kirill Budanov, and other members of the delegation.

The American side is represented by Jared Kushner, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll.

Earlier, the Kremlin announced that the agenda in Geneva would be broader and include territorial issues, while Ukraine sought progress on an energy truce and humanitarian agreements.

Previous rounds of negotiations on resolving Russia’s war against Ukraine took place in Abu Dhabi on January 23-24 and February 4-5.

No significant progress was made during the meetings to end the war, but the parties agreed to exchange prisoners. It was the first such exchange in five months.
