Border crossing: eCheckpoints extended to drivers of passenger cars

1 March 2024 06:37

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has amended the terms of the Electronic Queue at Border Crossing Point pilot project. Now, in addition to freight and passenger buses, the queue will also apply to cars. This was announced by the government’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, on Telegram, Kommersant Ukrainian reports

As part of this work, the government has approved the possibility of information exchange between the eChezha system and the Diia portal.

Drivers of passenger cars will be able to use the electronic queue using the Electronic Border Crossing Queue system or the tools of the Unified State Web Portal of Electronic Services, in particular, the Diia application.

Using this service, vehicles have crossed the border more than 800,000 times. This includes 756,000 trucks and 46,000 buses.

What is eChezha?

This is an online booking system for queuing to cross the border. Thanks to eChezhda, carriers can schedule border crossings and avoid spending money on several days of downtime. And the government will be able to analyse traffic flows and record loads, the app’s developers say. The service is also designed to reduce queues at checkpoints.

For more than a year, eChezha has been available for trucks, and recently it has been scaled up for buses.

How eChezha works:

  • the carrier registers in the eCheckpoint system and selects a checkpoint and the date of crossing;
  • the system reserves a place in the queue for a certain time;
  • the carrier arrives at the checkpoint at the booked time and passes control without queuing.

The electronic queue is available at the following checkpoints:

  • Krakivets – Korczowa;
  • Rava-Ruska – Hrebenne;
  • Ustyluh – Zosyn (for empty lorries);
  • Shehyni – Medyka;
  • Yahodyn – Dorohusk (for empty trucks);
  • Yahodyn – Dorohusk.
