Ukrainian Tik-Tok blogger Oksana Poshlaya checked the quality of butter from the 7 most popular dairy producers and shared the rather disappointing results, reports "Komersant Ukrainian"

It turned out that the butter from one of the most popular Ukrainian brands was a fake, although most Ukrainians prefer this brand.

Butter is a fairly popular dairy product that can be found in almost every refrigerator. However, unscrupulous producers have learned to make butter with the addition of cheap vegetable fats in such a way that an ordinary consumer cannot distinguish between the fake and the real product by taste.

At the same time, there are several ways to check the quality of butter at home. Blogger Oksana Poshlaya conducted her experiment and checked 7 most popular brands of butter for the presence of harmful impurities.

How to check the authenticity of butter at home

The famous Ukrainian food blogger Oksana Poshlaya decided to check the quality of butter. For the test, she chose butter from seven brands that are preferred by most Ukrainians:

  1. Yagotynske;
  2. Selyanske (72.5%) and (82%);
  3. Molokia;
  4. Roshen;
  5. Ferma;
  6. Premium;
  7. Derazhnya.

First of all, Oksana checked the composition of butter from each manufacturer, which was indicated on the package. For each of the seven manufacturers, the declared composition meets the requirements of DSTU.

Then the blogger showed a way to check the butter by touch. Immediately after refrigeration, the product should retain its hardness and not give way when touched with a finger. During the touch test, samples from two manufacturers, Roshen and Yagotynske, began to melt too quickly.

Later, Oksana Poshlaya moved on to the main part of the test, for which she prepared several glasses of boiling water, each with a piece of butter in it. According to her, the butter should completely dissolve in the water and turn it milky in color, while a homogeneous fatty film should form on the surface without any inclusions.

Butter from Yagotynske and Molokiya showed the best results, coloring the water milky and forming a homogeneous film. Butter from Roshen, Ferma, and Premium also showed fairly good results, coloring the water a milky shade, although small spots appeared on the film. Instead, oil from the Derazhnya brand formed small specks on the surface of the water and colored it a brighter, yellowish color.

To get a more accurate result, the blogger placed the glasses of butter in a cooler place to check how the film would harden on each of the samples. Butter from Yagotynske, Molokiya, and Selyanske brands with a fat content of 72% showed the best results, as the film on the surface of the water remained homogeneous and smooth. Roshen, Premium, and Derazhnya also gave fairly good results, although a few specks could be seen on the surface of the water. At the same time, Ferma’s film turned into small grains after solidification.

Selyanske butter with a fat percentage of 82% performed the worst, as the water in the glass remained clear, and the film froze in heterogeneous grains with numerous spots. According to the blogger, this result indicates a low milk content and poor quality of the product, despite its high price.

Based on the results of a home test of butter from popular brands, Oksana Poshlaya concluded that the highest quality product is made by Molokiya, Yagotynske, and Premium brands. Instead, Selyanske butter (82%) turned out to be fake.
