The power is being cut off like all citizens. In an interview with the We Are Ukraine YouTube channel, First Lady Olena Zelenska said that after the massive Russian attacks, she faces the same inconveniences as all Ukrainians.

“Of course [the electricity] is going out. We live in the same energy system. This year, it’s a little easier for me, because I have a generator. We’ve got it working properly. It’s loud, but it saves me,” Olena Zelenska

The First Lady recalls the first shelling of the power grid when she remembered what life by candlelight was like.

“Those were romantic evenings with my children. I even liked it. We had candlelit dinners, read books, played some board games whenever we could. We went to bed early,” Olena Zelenska

Zelenska also spoke about the family’s safety measures during air raids. She is sure that they cannot be ignored, so she and her children go down to the shelter.

“I go down there. At night every time. I take my children, I have to wake them up. I take my dogs and cat and drag them to the basement. But at the same time, I realise that I am very lucky to be able to go down to the basement in my house. And I imagine people going to the subway at this time.” – Olena Zelenska

Despite the fact that it is very inconvenient, children are not sleeping, it saves lives, says the first lady. And time after time, counting the victims after the shelling, we see that if there was a shelter, if people could go down, they would be saved, Zelenska added.
